Jewellery trends for Summer 2020

Keep your wardrobe up to date, by following our style guide to this season’s trending accessories. Investing in jewellery is a quick fashion fix that will bring your look into 2020 and beyond. Here are the hot looks you should know about for Summer 2020 and how to translate them from runway to realway!

Jewellery trends are slower moving than clothing crazes. Styles evolve over time and many of the looks emerging from the catwalk this season are building on trends we’ve seen becoming popular over the last few years.

Initial Jewellery

Runway

The alphabet or letter necklace trend has been growing over the last couple of years. With big players like Dior, Celine and Louis Vuitton creating initial pendant necklaces we knew this fashion was going to be around for a while. It’s the trend that lets you be loud and proud of who you are and celebrate your name! Initial or name jewellery also makes a great gift – it’s the extra thought that has gone into getting something personal made.

Realway

To get the vibe without the designer price tag head to smaller businesses that can create a quality bespoke item for you at a fraction of the cost. Many of our pieces can be personalised with your name or initials. As we’re creating your item for you, you can even select the font and exact wording to get the vibe you want. We also stock initial earrings, bracelets and necklaces that can be created with any letter.

Standalone Earrings

Runway

The Single earring dominated the spring 2020 catwalks with designers opting for supersized pieces making a bold statement. This is a fun way to add personality and a nod to high fashion to an everyday outfit.

Realway

To wear this look make sure your single earring is bold enough to hold its own.  A statement earring is best worn with a plain, simple neckline so nothing competes for attention. Not quite ready for such a strong look? Have some fun with mismatched earrings instead. Try mixing up pairs from your existing collection – perfect if you’ve lost one of your fave earrings as you get to pair it with something else! Or go for a mismatched set of perfectly partnered earrings that compliment each other. Shop our range here

Chain-link

Runway

Chain-link jewellery has been in the spotlight for a while, but this summer it’s even bigger, literally! Chunky chains have been seen everywhere from rings to drop earrings, but the focus this season is on necklaces and bracelets.

Realway

Either wear your supersized necklaces alone, over a classic shirt or to dress up a plain tee and jeans, or layered with a contrasting delicate necklace from your existing collection.

If you’re not sure about XXL necklaces opt for a sophisticated bracelet instead. We’ve taken this trend and run with it for our new range – we’ve upsized our chains and used larger links, but we’ve still kept things elegant and timeless. Shop the range here

Shells and Pearls

Runway

Shell jewellery was one of last summer’s biggest trends, and it’s definitely here to stay for 2020 (yay!). The catwalks have featured oversized conch shells as earrings and super chunky (notice a theme here?) boho shell necklaces. Seashells have been joined by their rich cousins, pearls, this year. We’ve seen everything from classic pearl earrings and chokers to delicate pearl details on bracelets.

Realway

For a daintier (and more affordable!) option go for delicate silver shells, faux pearls and mother of pearl. We’ve been embracing the wanderlust vibe and mixing silver with mother of pearl to add an instant glow to this year’s inevitable staycation!  Simple pearls can be worn with anything to give your outfit a sophisticated edge – start with a pair of classic pearl earring and then see where the trend takes you! Hoop Earrings

Runway

Hoops obviously aren’t a new trend, but these style staples are getting, yep you guessed it, bigger each season! The catwalk saw thick, gold hoops along with the oversized earrings being created with one of this season’s other key trends, shells.

Realway

We think every jewellery collection should feature a range of hoops – the trend certainly isn’t going anywhere and you can wear them everything from a sundress to a cocktail dress. The huge hoops that have been favoured by designers aren’t quite practical in real life, so we’d go for a midsized hoop with a statement design (shop our hoops here).

Stacking Rings

Runway

Designers have been stacking their jewellery high the last few seasons starting with bangles and layering necklaces, now they are using the more-is-more approach to rings.

Realway

This is one of this season’s easiest trend to wear, just keep the rings fairly dainty and go for it! We start with the middle three fingers and add a splash of colour with some Swarovski Crystals (try our birthstone rings for a personal touch). We also like to  add droplet rings for an extra bit of sparkle.
